Stat Heaven 2: Q4 2003 Email Trend Report DoubleClick Content 1. Publisher's Note: Highlights: DoubleClick's Insight 2004 Conference Jeanne S. Jennings, March 17 2004 New Metrics (ever heard of a 'View-Through'?), New Twists on Email Acquisition and New Thinking on Rich Media were highlights of the recent conference in NYC that was about e-mail marketing and a whole lot more. If you weren't able to attend in person, here's an overview with links to one of DoubleClick's great statistic-filled reports. 2. Ongoing Sp*m Concerns Hamper E-Marketing Efforts Carol Krol, BtoBOnline, March 11 2004 Many people seem to agree that the new federal legislation hasn't decreased junk e-mail -- but has it decreased e-mail from legitimate marketers? This news item seems to suggest just that, with quotes from Office Depot and AT&T. For the record, none of my clients (all opt-in) have cut back, but it poses a great question: Is the new legislation causing an even higher percentage of mail received to be junk by chasing those who follow the rules out of this channel? 3. Stat Heaven: Q4 2003 Benchmark Report Reveals Improved Delivery and Performance Across Vertical Email Campaigns Bigfoot Interactive, March 9 2004 I love statistics -- and this press release features a few that you'll find useful if you're in the retail, consumer packaged goods (CPG), Automotive, Media or Financial Services industries. They seem to skew a bit higher than DoubleClick's figures, so the truth probably lies somewhere in between. But anytime you can get more data points...you improve your benchmarks. The link above goes to the press release -- I couldn't find the full report on the site. 4. Industry Invitations: Using Email Newsletters As A Marketing Tool We'll cover product development, content formulas, benchmarks, sp*m filters, CAN-SP*M and more. Jeanne S. Cost: $149 Click on the link in the title to learn more or RSVP 5. Can a New Desktop Application Replace Email Newsletters? Anne Holland, MarketingSherpa, March 11 2004 This link will let you read the full article -- and sign-up for the new service to see how it works Remember a few months back when RSS delivery was all the rage? Here's a great article on another delivery channel to help publishers get out of the inbox -- and onto their reader's desktops. Anyone remember Pointcast? To my mind this is an updated twist on that old program -- but well worth reading about. Not a technical article, Anne focuses on her decision to employ this new delivery format -- and four lessons she learned while developing it. 6. Stat Heaven 2: Q4 2003 Email Trend Report DoubleClick, February 2004 Here it is again -- one of my favorites. And the news, for the most part, is good. They are reporting increases in overall delivery, open and click-through performance, although the B2C publisher segment figures were all flat or down (B2B publishers fared much better). The link above should (emphasis on should) open the PDF in your web browser. If you have any trouble, visit the DoubleClick Home Page and click on click on 'Knowledge Central: Q4 2003 Email Trend Report' in the bottom right corner. Closing Thanks for reading! As always, your thoughts and feedback are welcome. Best, Jeanne S.
