Dear Reader,
We're back after a brief hiatus with some thoughts
on Gmail, a new tool for gathering information on
competitors' websites (and your own!) and two
reports featuring e-mail marketing metrics. Don't miss
out -- take a minute right now and get caught up on
what you may have missed.

New Tool: Alexa Toolbar

Now this is cool! And I'm finding it a helpful business
tool. For any website you browse you can get:
- traffic rank and levels
- other sites that link to the site
- other sites that visitors to this site browse
I'm using it in my work with clients and for my own
sites; it's a great way to learn about your own sites -
- and your competitors'.
Added bonuses: the toolbar provides a google search
box, a link to Amazon.com (Alexa is owned by
Amazon) and other functions.

Stephanie Olsen, Silicon.com, June 18, 2004
Hold public floggings of sp*mmers as a deterrent? He
was only kidding (sigh), but check out this article to
read what Vint Cerf, one of the original architects of
the Internet, thinks is the key to cleaning up the e-
mail channel.

Stat Heaven I: Q1 2004 Email Trend Report

DoubleClick, May 2004
I use DoubleClick's quarterly reports almost daily to
gauge my clients' e-mail marketing performance
against the industry at large. Here's the latest --
showing small decreases in average open rates and
click-throughs (to 38.2% and 8.4%, respectfully),
but with improved deliverability.
Very useful, especially with the breakdown by
industry (Financial Services took a strong lead in
click-through rates, up to 11.8%!).

Stat Heaven II: Email Marketing Metrics Guide, 2004 Edition

This MarketingSherpa guide is one of my other
favorite resources for benchmarks and general
metrics information. It's stuffed with the kind of
quantitative data that's difficult to find elsewhere. A
great investment for anyone doing e-mail marketing.
